Deemie on Consolidation

Republican Johnson City Mayor, Greg Deemie, is responding to his opponent's proposal for sharing more services.

Deemie says Democrat Barrett Esworthy's idea to consolidate courts in the Town of Union and Village of Johnson City doesn't make sense right now, because the Village's court is actually making money most years. He also says Esworthy's proposal of merging JC's Fire Department with Binghamton's is already being considered.

"I have been talking with them. I've talked with Matt Ryan numerous times about it. It's something that we're looking at. It's something that we're going to look at. It's something that we probably need to do. We just can't sustain the department at the numbers that we need. They can't sustain theirs and it would be in the best interest of both," said Deemie.

Deemie says sharing services would save money, although he doubts that it would be millions of dollars, which he says Esworthy claims.
