Veterans Offered Free Discount Card

Broome County is recognizing veterans for their service to our country through its Veteran Discount Program.
Broome County is recognizing veterans for their service to our country through its Veteran Discount Program.

Currently, 120 businesses in the county, including Cortese Restaurant on Binghamton's Eastside, offer special deals to those with the veteran discount card. But county officials would like more veterans to get the free card. About 1,500 of the 15,000 veterans in the county have signed up. Discounts vary from five to thirty percent, with some places offering free goods or services. County Clerk Rick Blythe, himself a Vietnam veteran, says vets just have to stop by his office in the County Office Building with their discharge paper and fill out a short form.

Richard Blythe says, "it's a discount program recognizing veterans in our community have contributed and still continue to contribute to our quality of life today."
