The next stop on the high school football preview tour is Vestal High School where once again the Golden Bears find themselves in a unique position.

While the playoffs are still ten games away they already know who they will face in the sectional championship game.

Vestal will meet up with defending champions Union-Endicott because they are the only two area teams in Class A in Section IV.

The Golden Bears will have a different look to them, most notably at the quarterback position, as they lost their three year starter Nick Wegman to graduation.

Coach John Anderson said improvements need to be made on both sides of the ball so that the outcome of this year's championship game looks a little different.

"We need to improve our line play, and that's controlling the ball on both sides. On defense if we can control the line of scrimmage that will get the ball in our offense's hands. And then offensively we just have to protect Nick. So really the offensive and defensive lines, we knew that going in that it was going to be a point of emphasis on us this year because of our skilled players and their ability to make plays for us," said Anderson.

Vestal will open the season at the High School Football Kick-off Classic against the East Syracuse Minoa Spartans at the Carrier Dome on September 5 at 8 p.m.
