Two Republican Broome County Legislators will be stepping down.
Two Republican Broome County Legislators will be stepping down.

George Phillips, who represents the 8th district, and David Jensen, who represents the 6th district, announced at last night's monthly meeting of the legislature that they will be leaving.

Jensen says he needs to attend to family concerns.

Phillips says he will be pursuing a new endeavor and also has family matters to take care of.

"I would also like to thank my colleagues. Not only do you represent the 15 districts in Broome County, but I believe that you represent the best of Broome County. We have a lot of great people serving here," said Phillips.

New legislators may be appointed to their seats before this year's election.

Two men are interested in running for those seats on the Republican ticket.

They are Jason Shaw in the 8th district and Greg Baldwin in the 6th, although they have not made official announcements yet.
