Traditions Holds Annual Employee Appreciation Day

Traditions at the Glen has hosted its annual employee appreciation day.
Traditions at the Glen has hosted its annual employee appreciation day.

The idea dates back to IBM. The international computer maker valued its employees and wanted them to know it, so it provided recreational activities.

Yesterday at Traditions, about 120 workers golfed at the resort's course, enjoyed a picnic with steak, hamburgers and more.

Then they went to the Binghamton Mets game in the evening.

Sam Tricarico remembers the IBM appreciation days. He worked for Big Blue for 39 years and now works at Traditions golf course.

"It's very nice. Everyone appreciates it. It's a good camaraderie for everybody. We get together, play golf, have a nice meal and then we get prizes at the end. It's like what the IBM custom used to be," said Tricarico.

"I call them my team, because we are as good as they make us and they just do a phenomenal job. Everyone forgets about the hospitality business that when everyone else is partying, we're working and it's just like nurses and people in the news and such. This is a good chance for them," said general manager Candace Jones.

This was the seventh annual appreciation day at Traditions.

In the winter, employees are taken to a Binghamton Senators game and a tailgate party beforehand.
