Taste of the Tier: Good food for a good cause

Taste of the Tier is an annual fundraiser that benefits the Central New York chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Binghamton (WIVT) - You can get a taste of the best the Southern Tier has to offer while helping out a good cause Thursday evening. Taste of the Tier is an annual fundraiser that benefits the Central New York chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease that causes, among other things, thick mucus to form in a person's lungs, making it difficult for them to breathe.

Marcus, 25, the son of one of the event's organizers Angela Spera, has a milder form of CF and was only diagnosed when he was 18.

"It's like having bronchitis all of your life. For my son, he coughed for 10 years. And he would hardly sleep and then I hardly slept because he was up all night and we just couldn't figure it out," said Angela Spera.

Money raised will help further recent advances in research that have led to new medications.

The foundation is also honoring what it's calling "Binghamton's Finest," up-and-coming young professionals in the community. They are Joe Hashey, Dorolo Nixon Junior, Emily Crabbs, Lexi Avery, and Alexa Green.

Taste of the Tier runs Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a V-P reception beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Double Tree by Hilton in Binghamton.

$50 tickets are available at the door. VIP tickets are $75.
