SUNY Broome Student Housing Complex to Open in August

SUNY Broome's student housing complex is on schedule to open this August.
SUNY Broome's student housing complex is on schedule to open this August. This afternoon, Binghamton's Noon Rotary Club was briefed on the progress and what the housing means for the community.

There will be 325 beds that are part of suite style living. A furnished model just opened this week.

Jeffrey Horowitz is SUNY Broome's director of student housing. He said the living arrangements will help give certain students a way to identify with the college in a new form and attract new enrollees.

"I think it's going to increase enrollment. I believe it's going to provide an identity. The students will actually find an identity about being at school. They'll be able to live where they're learning," said Horowitz. "They'll be able to connect with other students and really feel like this is part of their home, not just go home every single night and come back the next morning. They'll be there after hours and weekends and things like that."

If things go well and the complex is constantly booked, SUNY Broome will consider expanding housing in the future. It is being privately funded and will be paid off by the rents collected from students.
