Stormteam Forecast

There will be clouds, fog and even a few showers to start Wednesday across the Southern Tier. Some sun is possible by later this afternoon. In spite of the clouds, it will be another mild day.

Here are the weather headlines:

• Fog is likely this morning, especially in areas that saw rain Tuesday
• Although clouds may be stubborn, there should be some sun once the fog burns off today.
• It won’t be quite as warm mid-week, but the average high temperature right now is 66. We’ll be cooling through the 70s!
• We’ll warm up again later in the work week, before much cooler, more seasonable weather arrives for the weekend.

On the satellite picture a distinct swirl shows up over Pennsylvania associated with a disturbance in the jet stream winds aloft. This caused the showers and thunderstorms Tuesday but will be moving away from us Wednesday. Following the passage of Tuesday’s system, slightly cooler weather will build south over us for Wednesday and Thursday. We say ‘slightly cooler’ but we still expect high temperatures to crack 70 degrees both days.

Later in the week, a much stronger system (a cold front) will drop southeast from western Canada. In advance of that, southerly winds will warm us up on Friday so look for temperatures in the mid-70s one last time.

Friday also looks to be dry during the daytime. The timing of the front looks such that rain should hold out until at night on Friday

As jet stream winds aloft start to take a dip over the Northeast look for much cooler and unsettled (showery) weather to return for the weekend.
