The Southern Tier Region will receive another $3 million from New York State to help with flood recovery efforts.
The Southern Tier Region will receive another $3 million from New York State to help with flood recovery efforts.

The award was announced last week as part of the state's latest New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program conference.

Our area was recognized for having the best regional collaboration. In particular, the Southern Tier group expanded its boundaries to be more inclusive, hosted a Regional Resiliency Summit and launched a River Initiative that looks at watershed modeling, management and education.

Governor Cuomo says recent natural disasters have brought communities closer together.

"You tightened those bonds of community, you tightened that fabric. So, your community will be better prepared, not just physically, but also mentally and socially. And that is quite an achievement," said Cuomo.

The Southern Tier region includes municipalities in both Broome and Tioga Counties as well as Sidney.
