Soccer players from England visit area

Endwell (WIVT) - Members of the Harvey Grammar School soccer team from Kent County, England were in the area to visit with local teams and play a game.

This is part of a 25 year tradition where the Harvey school comes to the United States every other year and is hosted by an area team.

Susquehanna Valley has done it in the past, and this year it was Maine-Endwell's turn.

The players live together, eat together, practice together and then compete against each other.

Both sides say it's a fantastic opportunity to play a high level of soccer and build bonds that go way beyond the pitch.

"It's a once and a lifetime opportunity. The American way of doing things is always bigger and better. It's fantastic to come from a small town, an hour outside of London that's where we're from,to come to such a big place. We went to Alfred State last week and to come to Maine Endwell is a completely contrasting experience, but it's still valuable, still enjoyable, unique in that respect," said Harvey coach James Chamberlain.

"It's good for our junior and seniors to just meet some new people. Hopefully with all the technology today, with Facebook and stuff that they keep tabs and maybe down the road it opens up a door for someone."said Maine-Endwell coach Chris Riley.
