Sindelar a Hometown Hero at Dick's Open

When you are out watching the Dick's Sporting Goods Open next week you will notice large groups of people all over the course, and perhaps the largest following will be walking with Horseheads native Joey Sindelar.

The crowd really embraces it's hometown hero and he truly appreciates the support.

After struggling with back problems last year, Sindelar has played a full season on the Champions Tour this year.

While he hasn't quite cracked into the top ten, his best was a T25 finish at the Senior PGA Championship in May, he believes a breakthrough is near and would love nothing more than to do it at home.

"Winning would be absolutely huge. I don't care where and when, of course I would love to be a Dick's Sporting Goods at home in front of my hometown people, but anywhere would be fine with me. I'm sneaking back to where I could possibly shine the flashlight out that far to see that possibility. It's very fun," said Sindelar.

Sindelar came close to hoisting the trophy at En-Joie in 2012 when he finished third.

The first round of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open tees off on Friday, August 15th at En-Joie Golf Course.
