Showtime Costumes On History's American Pickers

Another local business is being showcased in the surreal world of reality TV tomorrow as the crew from Antique Archaeology made a recent visit. Mike Wolf and Frank Fritz of the popular History Channel show "American Pickers" taped an episode at Showtime Costumes in Binghamton last August.

Owner Niki Striss says it took months of badgering to get the show to send an advance team to check out the thousands of custom costumes and masks at her Main Street store. She says they spent even longer at a barn filled with toys, trains and other items collected by her husband Ronnie. Striss says Wolf and Fritz bought a derby car, Odd Fellows Association items and a cast iron Victorian clothes rack as well as a belly dancer costume and tiara for their colleague Danielle. Striss says the visit was a lot of fun.

"Mike is the entire show. Frank is a little standoff-ish, introverted, very shy. He doesn't seem to be, but he is. But, a very nice guy," said Striss.

Striss says she had difficulty remembering the lines the reality show producers wrote for her. She says they made up a story about Danielle purchasing an item from her and sending Mike and Frank there to pick it up.

The episode airs at 9 p.m. Wednesday evening on The History Channel. Meanwhile, Striss is in the process of closing her store. She's only open Fridays until everything is sold. In fact, she'd love to sell the entire lot to one buyer.
