Security Mutual and famed major league baseball pitcher Jim "Mudcat" Grant are gearing up for their annual golf outing this summer.

The All-Star Golf tournament is entering its 13th year and keeps continuing to grow.

It will benefit four local organizations, including CHOW, Catholic Charities of Broome County, the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton, and the Broome County Urban League.

All of these organizations are known for their contributions to the community from supplying food to those in need to helping support children.

Those causes are important to Mudcat.

"To be able to do some charitable work, especially with the boys and girls, especially with the fact that I'm a diabetic and we raise money for the juvenile diabetes you just cant beat that. I remember I was nine years old and my mom made sure that we fed people back in those days," said Grant.

New this year, there will also be an emphasis on the U.S. military and part of the proceeds from the tournament will be given to organizations who are supporting veterans and service members who come back from overseas.

Rick Yarosh of Windsor, was nearly killed in Iraq when he was in an explosion.

60% of his body was burned.

He says he has not had issues with the Veterans Administration, but says some others have.

"Its time for the community to step up. It's time for the people of this country to step up and make up those losses. We can complain about the VA and what they're doing every single day or we can do something about it. To me that's what security mutual is doing. They are raising money that is going to go to great organizations," said Yarosh.

Many celebrities will be playing in the event.

They include former pitcher Dave Stewart, other black aces who are African American major league pitchers who won at least 20 games, and Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at the Links at Hiawatha Landing on August 28th.
