Ribbon Cutting Marks 100th Anniversary of Tioga County Historical Society

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Tioga County Historical Society.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Tioga County Historical Society. To celebrate its major milestone, the historical society has a new Civil War exhibit and art display at its museum.

There are also three replica rooms which show what a 1914 school house, general store and bedroom looked like.

The historical society's executive director says the organization wants to highlight the county's involvement in the Civil War and honor its soldiers.

"Well, they will be able to see a lot of history that's really important. Not just to the county but to the region, to the states, and nationwide. So they'll get a glimpse of how one area can really affect national history," said Kevin Lentz.

There will be a reception at the museum on Saturday at 110 Front St. in Owego. It will be from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
