A current Broome County legislator is seeking a position on Family Court.

Democrat Daniel D. Reynolds of Vestal is running for one of two open seats on the court, the position currently held by fellow Democrat Peter Charnetsky who is up for re-election, and another Family Court judgeship that the state just created.

Reynolds has been an attorney in private practice in Binghamton since 1992, spending much of his time in Family Court handling custody, visitation and other juvenile issues.

He’s also one of a select number of lawyers appointed to be attorneys for children, representing them in disputes between parents.

Reynolds says making just decisions on behalf of families and children is extremely important.

“You really need the right type of person to be in that position. I think that’s me, with my background, my temperament, all of my experiences, my experience as a father and a husband. I think I’ve got the right qualifications for this position," said Reynolds.

Reynolds is married with four children. He grew up locally, graduated from Seton Catholic Central, SUNY Binghamton and Albany Law School.

His sister, Molly Fitzgerald, is a State Supreme Court Justice.

Reynolds will not run for re-election to the Broome County Legislature and is stepping down from his position as Minority Leader.
