Students at Vestal's Clayton Avenue Elementary School saw a filet-a-fridge demonstration this morning.

NYSEG and a recycling company that it works with put on the presentation to show kids the importance of recycling, specifically refrigerators that contain coolant that can harm the ozone layer.

The 4th and 5th graders saw all the components of a refrigerator, including foam, glass and metal.

"This is an environmental program. It's always good to start young educating children about these kinds of things and how important it is to take care of the environment," said Clay Ellis of NYSEG.

NYSEG has a program where it will pick up used refrigerators for free, recycle them and give the appliance's owner a rebate check for $50.
