NYS Sustainable Business Council Holds First Regional Council

The New York State Sustainable Business Council has held its first regional congress.
The New York State Sustainable Business Council has held its first regional congress.

The event brought together businesses and organizations as they seek to create what they call a more sustainable economy in the state.

A few of the things discussed were what kind of communities need to be created, policies that guide economic strategy, efforts to create green jobs, developing clean technology and how to generate less waste.

The meeting was held at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County.

"We see that there is so much potential here for economic development. While there have been a couple decades of decline, we see this moment as being an exciting opportunity to expand our investments here in green jobs, local business, agriculture, tourism. This region has a lot to offer," said Betta Broad, climate and energy program manager for Catskill Mountainkeeper.

People from around Greater Binghamton, Tompkins County, Cooperstown, the Hudson Valley, and New York City attended the meeting.
