Members of STIC Take Ice-Bucket Challenge

Members of the Southern Tier Independence Center took the ice-bucket challenge, this afternoon.

They sat down in rows of chairs and actually did it in a wave-fashion where the last row dumped icy water on the row in front of it, and so-on.

The challenge is part of the ALS Association's Ice-Bucket Challenge that has been wildly successful.

It has helped raise about $80 million for the organization as it seeks a cure for the progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

STIC's Executive Director, Maria Dibble, said the organization is going to collect donations from its workers for ALS.

"We've had some really great people who have actually had ALS and done videos about personal care and why that's so important for people with disabilities, so we want to honor those who have passed and honor those who have the disease now and are fighting it with all they can," said Dibble.

Dibble has also challenged Broome County's Director of Social Service and Mental Health Art Johnson, ACHIEVE, and the Broome Developmental Center to take the ice water challenge.
