Stormteam Forecast

Fog this morning will burn off across the Southern Tier. We think there will be more scattered showers and thunderstorms again this afternoon.

Here are the weather headlines heading into the weekend:

• A few more showers and thunder is possible Friday
• Some heavier downpours are still possible Friday.
• It still looks like we will see drier weather for the weekend.
• A significant warm up is likely mid next week.

Low pressure in the upper atmosphere that we’ve been tracking all week as it moves east in now over the Northeast. Over the next 24 hours, it will gradually fall apart.

It will still have the ability to produce a few more showers around the Southern Tier and Northeast Pennsylvania Friday. While rain can’t be ruled out at anytime Friday, the most likely time for wet weather is during the afternoon. The rain Friday shouldn’t be as widespread as we’ve seen the past couple of days. As you watch the sky or the radar today be mindful that the showers and storms may come at us from the east not the west. They will also be slow moving as winds in the lower atmosphere are quite light.

On Saturday you will likely need a bit of patience as moisture in the lower atmosphere may be a bit stubborn. There should be quite a bit of clouds in the morning and we can’t even rule out a shower. However, dry air still looks to nose its way in from New England so we expect sunshine to return in the afternoon.

Beyond Saturday, dry weather is likely well into the start of next week. Temperatures for Sunday and Monday should be right about average for this time of year, upper 70s. Then early next week, warmer air will move in and our afternoon temperatures should start climbing through the 80s.

Our next chance for showers and storms will come during the middle of next week as a cold front approaches New York state.
