Lane Looks Back on Five Decades

A local construction company that's been a fixture in our area for nearly five decades says it remains committed to the philosophy that made it successful.

William H. Lane Incorporated is a construction manager and general contractor on many large scale projects throughout New York and Pennsylvania.

It employs over 21 office staff, 25 field supervisors and depending on the jobs, as many as 50 to 150 building trade employees at any given time.

CEO Bill Lane founded the company in 1967 and since then he's retained many longtime workers and often their offspring. He says his company puts family first.

"We kind of operate as a family here. Everyone here has some personal associations with people. I think that's very important," said Lane.

Lane got its first big break in 1968 when it was chosen to build the hotel that's now the Holiday Inn Arena in downtown Binghamton.

And while technology and techniques have evolved over the years, Lane says the commitment to fostering strong relationships with clients has stayed the same.

"We firmly believe that we like to talk and discuss things with people, even though we have all of the technology that we have today, face-to-face," said Lane.

Lane says over the past 25 years or so, the company has focused primarily on the medical sector, building hospitals, nursing homes and medical office complexes.

It's currently building a 330 car parking ramp at Lourdes.

Bill Lane and his wife have also donated to many causes in our area, including Lourdes Hospital, the United Way and other charities.

These days, Bill's son Mark runs the day-to-day operations of the firm, and carries on his father's commitment to traditional business values.
