Inspire Yoga Holds Mission For Maddie Fundraiser

Dozens of people sweat up a storm yesterday to raise money for a Binghamton girl battling cancer.
Dozens of people sweat up a storm yesterday to raise money for a Binghamton girl battling cancer. Inspire Fitness in Vestal held a Mission for Maddie fundraiser during the day.

9-year-old Maddie Shaw was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma last November and is currently undergoing chemotherapy at the Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse.

Supporters could sign up for 15 different sample fitness classes with registration fees donated to the Shaw family. There was a raffle featuring a 42 inch TV and many baskets provided by local businesses.

Inspire Fitness co-owner Traci Meier sads the turnout was overwhelming.

"You hope that you never need the support of the community for something like this. But, it's awesome to see that you have it when you need it," said Meier.

Her family says Maddie is responding well to therapy. Once their costs not paid for by insurance are covered, they plan to donate any additional funds to the Golisano Hospital.
