House Fire in Town of Maine

Firefighters knocked down the fire in about 15 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A group of volunteer firefighters from Western Broome County, who are part of Engine 98 which staffs fire stations during the day, were en route to a garbage fire near East Maine Road at about 10 a.m. The firefighters realized that there was smoke coming from a house at 46 Daugherty Rd. at about the same time. So, the crew quickly changed course and found flames coming out of the roof and back of the house.

Maine Fire Chief Louis Richardson says being on the road helped the first responders get to the scene quicker than normal.

"What sped it up was that they were already dispatched for our first incident of the refuse fire. That put them on the road for probably a good 5 minutes before this was dispatched for," said Richardson.

Firefighters knocked down the fire in about 15 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was home when it started.
