Honor Flight Guardians

A group of World War 2 and Korean War veterans will be honored next month.
Sticking with the military theme, a group of World War II and Korean War veterans will be honored next month.

Twin Tiers Honor Flight will fly about 75 veterans from our region down to the national war memorials in Washington, DC. Tioga Downs owner Jeff Gural is paying for it. Tuesday night at Tioga Downs, a guardian training session was held. Each veteran will be escorted by a volunteer guardian. Their job is to make sure the veterans stay safe, including helping them walk and get them whatever they need on the trip.

DeAnna Deneen says, "That guardian is there to make sure that the veteran is safe at all times. That guardian is that veteran's family member for the day. His or her purpose is to make sure that that man or woman is king or queen for the day."

The flight will take place April 12th. There is still a need for some guardians. For more information on the flight, log onto TwinTiersHonorFlight.org.
