Catholic Charities uses the money it receives from the tournament to help fund some of its programs, including Family Counseling.

Licensed social workers work with individuals, couples and entire families to address problems such as anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, death and divorce.

Counselor Colleen Wolpert said recent funding cuts have forced the program to downsize and let go of staff.

"United Way funding definitely got cut. And everything costs more, so that's part of it. We rely on these bits of funding that we get from programs and tournaments and different things like that that help us stay afloat," she said.

Catholic Charities provides a variety of other services to youth, including intensive case management, help for teen runaways and family respite care.

The All-Star Golf Tournament takes place August 28 at the Links at Hiawatha.
