A Southside Binghamton resident and longtime city firefighter plans to run for the Broome County Legislature.

Al Gardiner was surrounded by family and friends today as he made his announcement at Broome Republican headquarters.

Gardiner is seeking the 15th district seat which covers the western portion of the Southside of Binghamton and a little of the Westside.

He's a House Captain for Engine 4 on the city's Eastside and has also served as a paramedic, arson investigator and code enforcement official. His chief campaign issues will be keeping taxes low, mitigating blight and strengthening public safety.

"Being a City of Binghamton firefighter, I'm literally out in the streets, talking with people all the time. I see the good things and the bad, and I bring a lot of experience to the table," said Gardiner.

Gardiner is married with two sons and lives on Hawthorne Rd. on the city's Southside.
