Free Pancakes at IHOP Benefit Area Charities

Today is IHOP's 9th annual National Pancake Day.
Today is IHOP's 9th annual National Pancake Day. The free pancake giveaway is a fundraiser that benefits the Children's Miracle Network.

Each IHOP has it's own local charity partner. The IHOP on the Vestal Parkway has partnered with Janet Weis Children's Hopsital at Geisinger in Pennsylvania.

"Our owner is actually very passionate about helping out the Children's Miracle Network and we also have two employees who the Children's Miracle Network has actually helped out. So we just love donating our time and our pancakes to everybody," said general manager Heather Strohl.

There was a special guest at the Vestal IHOP today. 18-year-old Grace McClelland of Sayre is a patient at Geisinger. She volunteered to help out at the fundraiser to raise awareness for supporting the miracle network and to share her story. Grace wants people to know what they are donating to.

"For a while I was going to our local hospital and then we ended up going to Geisinger Children's Miracle Network hospital. And they really helped me on my road to recovery and you know a lot of the donations we could, we saw a lot of things that were donated to the Children's Miracle Network while we were staying at the hospital," said McClelland.

The restaurant hopes to make $4,000 this year, contributing to the national goal of $3 million.

Customers have until 10 p.m. tonight to enjoy a free short stack of IHOP's famous buttermilk pancakes. They can make a donation at the front register for pediatric services at Geisinger.
