Lynchburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Marshall running back Kevin Grooms, who was dismissed from the Conference USA program last month, will enroll at Liberty.

The Big South school said the 2012 Conference USA freshman of the year will not be eligible to play in 2014. When he returns to the field next year, he will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Grooms was dismissed Grooms by Marshall on July 28, two days after his third arrest in 16 months. He was charged with felony burglary, domestic assault by threat, petit larceny and fleeing by foot.

Over the last two seasons at Marshall, the 5-foot-10, 168-pound native of Hollywood, Florida, played in 21 games, rushing 212 times for 1,240 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2012, he rushed for 737 yards and eight touchdowns on 121 carries while being named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year.

He also spent a redshirt season at Marshall in 2011.

"Kevin sought out our football program because he is at a point in his life where he wants to make some positive changes," Liberty coach Turner Gill said. "He believes Liberty University would provide the type of atmosphere that would allow him to be successful in this endeavor. He understands that he will be expected to grow academically, athletically, socially and spiritually. We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Kevin and be a part of his growth and maturity."
