Energy Efficiency Grants Extended

The Green Jobs, Green New York Program is hoping to make another 3,000 homes in our area more energy efficient.
The Green Jobs, Green New York Program is hoping to make another 3,000 homes in our area more energy efficient. The program is being extended through a six figure grant from NYSERDA.

The Home Performance Energy Efficiency Program offers free energy assessments through participating contractors. For those who meet eligibility requirements, a $5,000 grant is available to upgrade single family homes. Property owners can receive up to $10,000 for two to four unit dwellings. In addition to saving homeowners money on their utility bills, the program helps reduce energy consumption and our carbon footprint.

Jonny Norton of Foam-It Insulation says it has another benefit.

"When we started working through the program, we were a company of 6 employees. Now, we're pushing over 20 employees in the last 2 years. So, this program stimulated so much job creation, it's a really good thing for the program," said Norton.

In addition to the grants, Green Jobs can assist homeowners with low interest loans that they pay off through their utility payments, something called on-bill financing.
The local program is looking to expand its outreach into more rural areas of its eight county region by partnering with other green groups.
