Endwell Rotary Club Discusses Fracking Benefits

Members of the Endwell Rotary Club heard about the potential humanitarian benefits that fracking could bring to our region, if New York State approves the gas drilling process.

Financial advisor John Cuomo says there is a perception by many people that the only residents who will benefit from gas drilling are land owners. He says a quick look at Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania shows that drilling money has helped pay for the newly built hospital in Montrose and also lowered property taxes. Cuomo says he envisions landowners creating and putting money into community foundations to help neighbors who fall on difficult financial times.

"When somebody has a down and out time, I don't mean that they just need a bag of groceries, I mean that they've really fallen into a crack, a big home problem, a big medical problem, a big car problem that there will be little pools of money, buckets of money, in the communities themselves, like neighbor to neighbor, to be able to support that at and bring folks up," said Cuomo.

Cuomo says the idea of neighbor helping neighbor is something that was a big part of American culture in the past. He also encourages people to research fracking on their own.
