Davis College USPS Branch Likely to Remain Open

The United States Postal Service's branch at Davis College will likely remain open, although hours may be reduced.
The United States Postal Service's branch at Davis College will likely remain open, although hours may be reduced.

The USPS is looking to cut costs, because it has been losing billions of dollars.

Thursday afternoon, postal officials held a meeting outside of the Bible School Park location to lay out the situation and announced the results of a recent survey asking if the office should be kept open or not.

Everyone polled preferred hours being scaled back over the branch being closed or moved.

The post office has been at the college since 1911.

"It has been a good thing for our community, it has been a good thing for our college and I realize the government needs to do things based upon numbers and people that use the place, but I do know it's busy here and a lot of traffic goes through. We as a college would love to see it stay," said Davis College President Dr. Dino Pedrone.

The USPS still needs to approve a plan for the branch.

As of now it appears hours will change to 9:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with it being closed for lunch between 12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Those are reduced hours when compared with current hours.

Saturday service would remain the same, from 10 a.m. until noon.

If signed off on, the changes would take effect in January.
