Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of prized infield prospect Javier Baez from Triple-A Iowa prior to Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies.
The Cubs' first-round pick in 2011, Baez entered 2014 ranked as the club's number one prospect by Baseball America after being named the organization's player of the year in 2013.
In 104 games with Iowa this season, Baez hit .260 with 24 doubles, 23 home runs and 80 RBI.
Baez batted .278 with 73 doubles, 76 home runs, 238 RBI and 62 stolen bases in 319 minor league games over the last four seasons.
The Cubs also optioned pitcher Blake Parker to Iowa. The right-hander was 1-1 with a 6.57 ERA in nine games with the Cubs this season.
