City Cracks Down on Code Violations

The City of Binghamton is cracking down on code violations.

Mayor Rich David and eight code officers did a sweep on the westside this morning, starting at the corner of Mather and North streets.

Two previous enforcement efforts were done this year on the northside and Front Street corridor that netted 140 citations.

Property owners typically have about 10 days to correct problems once they are notified of them.

Mayor David says the goal is to help cleanup neighborhoods.

"When you look up and down a street and see bags of garbage ripped open and strewn everywhere, when you see trash blowing around in the street, when you see high grass, when you see that your neighbors are not taking care of the exterior of their homes, that has a negative impact on residents quality of life," said David.

In the coming months, code sweeps will be done on the southside and in the First Ward.
