A locally-owned radio station group is hoping to resurrect a decades-old Friday after-work party in downtown Binghamton.
A locally-owned radio station group is hoping to resurrect a decades-old Friday after-work party in downtown Binghamton.

Equinox Broadcasting has moved its Summertime Cans and Clams event to the Riverwalk at the Holiday Inn Arena, scene of the once popular Party on the Patio.

For its 10th year, Equinox decided to have Cans and Clams join the excitement of a resurgent downtown nightlife.

In addition to food and drinks, there's live entertainment. The Scott Freeman Band performed last Friday.

Plus some special-themed Fridays including a Ladies Night, Pool Party and Luau.

"When people come out and see that we're real people, we're local people, we're having fun with the community, it's gaining us more listeners. And they're enjoying what we can bring to them through our stations," said general sales manager Joyce Knapik.

Tomorrow night, the Bruce Beadle Band performs.

Equinox operates Cool 106.7, Sunny 107.1, Solid Gold 104.5 and 100.5 the Drive.

Meanwhile, the former home of Cans and Clams is still rocking on Friday evenings.

Traditions at the Glen in the Town of Union now hosts Clammin' and Jammin'.

Same great food, drinks and music held either outside of Bogey's Bar or near the Glenview Banquet Tent.

Manager Candace Jones, who started Party on the Patio when she worked for the Holiday Inn Arena, says she know a thing or two about putting on a great social scene.

She says the beautiful views and relaxing atmosphere makes it a welcome place for people of all ages to put the work week behind them.

"Previously, I would it was more of a mature crowd. But, this year, we've just extended it. It is from 25 to 75. Everybody comes out and has a great time," said Jones.

Last Friday, Electric Brew performed at Clammin' and Jammin'.

Tomorrow night, it's local favorite Brotherhood.
