Camp Hope is underway.

The camp, which is for kids ages 6 to 14 who have lost loved ones, is sponsored by Lourdes Hospice and Broome Oncology.

It's held at Camp Sertoma in Kirkwood, which is owned by the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton.

The kids take part in healing circles where they can talk about their feelings and memories of their loved ones.

When NewsChannel 34 stopped by, the owner of Animal Adventure, which showcases exotic animals in Harpursville, was there with some animals for the kids to see.

There are also plenty of other fun things for them to do, including a bounce house, swimming and hiking.

"I tell my kids that it's important to give them coping skills that they're going to know and have for the rest of their lives. Many of them have lost more than one person. Today, we talked about pets that have died. So, they're going to having a lot of losses throughout their lives and we hope to give them tools," said Deb Callaghan, a social worker at the camp.

About 40 kids are attending the camp.
