Boy's Wish Comes True with Tree House

A Town of Colesville boy's wish of a lifetime has been granted.

Kalen Kulas now has a castle tree house, thanks to Make-A-Wish, Delta Engineers and numerous other companies from around the region.

Kalen, 4, has spinal muscular atrophy type-2 and is wheelchair-bound.

He had actually drawn a picture of his dream tree house and Delta Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors, based in Endwell, took it to another level and made it a reality.

For the past month, volunteers have been working to create the wheelchair accessible tree house and finally welcomed him into it, along with his 2-year-old brother.

His parents say the family is overwhelmed by the generosity and work that went into making Kalen's dream come true.

"We're just completely amazed and they've gone above and beyond. The engineers at Delta and everyone else who volunteered, they haven't missed a single detail and they made the whole experience completely amazing and we couldn't be more appreciative," said Jared Kulas.

Before being allowed to see the tree house that is complete with a television, drawing board and heating source, Kalen and his brother were crowned king and prince of their kingdom by actors from Roberson Museum and Science Center.

"It was one phone call to Delta, who readily obliged, and they brought Kalen's vision to reality with the help of our wish granters and team in the office. It is an extraordinary example of Make A Wish in action, you have entire communities of people coming together, donors and volunteers for one wish," said Diane Kuppermann, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central NY.

Make-A-Wish helps make dreams come true for children who are facing life-threatening medical conditions.
