Astorino Calls For Regional Debate

GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Rob Astorino is calling on Governor Cuomo to agree to eight regional debates across the state.
GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Rob Astorino is calling on Governor Cuomo to agree to eight regional debates across the state.

Astorino held a news conference today with his Lieutenant Governor running mate, Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss, outside of Binghamton City Hall.

Astorino proposes that one of the debates be held in Greater Binghamton where he would challenge Cuomo to defend the ongoing moratorium on fracking.

The Westchester County Executive says drilling can be done safely and would bring economic revival to the area.

He says Cuomo owes it to the voters to explain his positions.

"If he's a coward on his record, if he doesn't want to tell the people of Binghamton that he can spare an hour to talk about the future of Binghamton and the Southern Tier, then he'll have to tell the people himself why he chooses not to do that," said Astorino.

Astorino did have praise for one statewide elected Democrat.

The Republican says he's glad to hear that Comptroller Tom DiNapoli plans to audit the state's extensive advertising campaign to promote economic development, tourism and Hurricane Sandy relief.

Astorino has accused Cuomo of improperly using the ad campaign to further his political career.
