Aaron Powell to Appeal Guilty Verdict

Powell's attorney says that he plans to appeal the decision.
Powell's attorney says that he plans to appeal the guilty verdict that was handed down in Broome County Court yesterday afternoon.

Aaron Powell murdered his estranged wife, Christina Powell, and her friend Mario Masciarelli in March of last year at the Powell's home on Lisi Lane in the Town of Binghamton.

Powell had elected not to attend his own murder trial.

Broome County District Attorney Gerald Mollen isn't surprised by the appeal.

"There's an appeal in every case. We did everything properly. An appellate court will look at it and that's true in every case. That's why you go to law school, to make sure you do it right and I've never lost one on appeal and I don't expect this to be the first," said Mollen.

Powell's sentencing is set for Sept. 3rd.
