52 Locals on Infected Royal Caribbean Cruise

At least 52 people from Greater Binghamton are aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship that's headed home early because of a spreading stomach illness.

More than 600 people aboard the Explorer of the Seas have been struck by the highly contagious bug. The ship is now expected to dock in New Jersey on Wednesday, two days early. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now reports 577 passengers and 49 crew members are ill. Many are reporting vomiting and diarrhea.

The owner of a local travel agency said that 52 people booked a cruise and are on the trip. No word on whether any of them have fallen ill. There are more than 4,000 people on board.
