Palm Beach Gardens, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The PGA of America announced the dates for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

The event will be contested from Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The year will also mark the return of golf to the Olympics and the centennial celebration for the PGA of America.

The Olympic games will be contested Aug. 5-21, 2016, and the games have thrown a wrench into all golf schedules. The PGA Championship has been moved up to July 28-31, while dates for that year's Open Championship haven't been announced.

With the Olympics also pushing back the FedExCup playoffs for the PGA Tour, the 41st Ryder Cup has been moved to Sept. 30-Oct. 2. That will mark the first time since 2010, and the second time in the last 30 years, that there will be an October finish for the Ryder Cup.

"The year 2016 promises to be one of the most significant years in golf, and the PGA of America is excited that it will host to the Ryder Cup that year at Hazeltine National Golf Club, a course that has a proven track record in hosting premier events," said PGA of America President Ted Bishop. "Hazeltine National Golf Club, a wonderfully challenging layout, is well known to many of the finest players on both sides of the Atlantic. We anticipate the outstanding sports fans of the Twin Cities area will again turn out to support one of the greatest events in golf."

Hazeltine National, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1962 and remodeled by his son, Rees Jones in 1987, has hosted the 2002 and 2009 PGA Championships along with seven USGA Championships, including two U.S. Opens and a pair of U.S. Women's Opens.

This year's Ryder Cup is slated for Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland. The event will be played September 26-28. The European team has won the last two Ryder Cups, and five of the last six overall.
