Cuomo Proposes Scholarships for Top STEM Students

Governor Andrew Cuomo is proposing to give some top high school students full ride scholarships to state colleges.

Under his proposal, the top 10 percent of high school graduates could qualify for scholarships if they study in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math at any SUNY or CUNY college. Graduating students would also have to commit to working in New York State for five years.

"The most important thing is keeping these great young people in the state. None of us want our kids to leave New York and go elsewhere for jobs, to get a full ride to a SUNY or CUNY school and to agree to stay here for five years, hopefully stay here well beyond five and stay here and make a career and life here, that's the goal," said Lt. Governor Robert Duffy.

Governor Cuomo's proposal now heads to the legislature for consideration.
