Cuomo Addresses Psych Center Closing

The State plans to shut down in-patient psychiatric services at the Greater Binghamton Health Center next July.
The State plans to shut down in-patient psychiatric services at the Greater Binghamton Health Center next July. It wants to move some seriously mentally ill patients to Syracuse and Utica. Other people would be treated on an out-patient basis. The Broome Developmental Center is also slated to close within three years.

Governor Cuomo says people want lower taxes. He says the way to achieve that is to shrink government.

"If you reduce taxes, you have to reduce the cost of the government and we have been reducing the cost of government. If you reduce the cost of government, you have to shrink government and that's what we've been doing. If you shrink government then some facilities close, yes," said Cuomo.

Officials from our area, including State Senator, Tom Libous, and Assemblywoman, Donna Lupardo, have said they will fight the proposed closings. The State Legislative session starts back up early next year.
