The Holiday season is a time for giving, a time for cheer and also a time for basketball. Especially right Here in the Southern Tier where two annual basketball tournaments will be taking place. The Pete Hyde 'Coaches vs. Cancer' tournament and the STOP DWI Holiday Classic. The 5th Annual Pete Hyde Coaches vs. Cancer Classic will take place December 27th and 28th at the Johnson City Middle School. The girl's basketball tournament named in honor of long time girls varsity coach at Maine-Endwell and the proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Last year it was Section IV champion Maine-Endwell who came out with the hardware as they took down Liverpool 53-27 in the finals. This year will feature teams from 12 schools including M-E, Binghamton, Chenango Valley, Ithaca, Johnson City, Seton Catholic Central, and Union-Endicott. Over 300 players and coaches are expected to participate. First game tip offs are scheduled for 10:30 am and each day concludes with games at 7:45 pm.
