Broome County is making a renewed effort to crackdown on workers compensation fraud.

County Executive Debbie Preston has created a task force to oversee claims. It is made up of herself, the district attorney and the heads of Broome Security, personnel and the risk and management department. Fraudulent claims can cost the County hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"From the minute a claim comes in, the investigative process is going to begin. It's not to say there's something fraudulent on the face of that claim, but to make sure it's legitimate, to make sure that all of the documentation we need is addressed," said Jim Dadamio.

Workers compensation claims cost the County about $2 million a year.
