The tradition of free Christmas dinners lives on in Binghamton and is now spreading to Endicott.

Sam's Club presented the Bandera Alliance with $2,500 to support the Bandera Family Free Christmas Dinner. For the 24th year, it will take place at American Legion Post 80 on Main Street in Binghamton. New this year, the same meal will be served at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome near U-E High School. Both dinners run from noon to 3 on Christmas Day, home deliveries begin at 9:30.

President Bill Bandera says donations go a long way toward serving the nearly 4,000 meals.

"Little organizations all throughout the community give $10, $15, $20, $50 or $100 and it adds up. And it's very helpful," said Bandera.

This year, requests for home delivery are being taken by First Call for Help by dialing 2-1-1. Volunteers start prepping the dinner on Monday the 16th at Post 80 and 250 helpers are needed Christmas Day.

To volunteer call 232-7098. To donate, go to BFACA.org.
