$1 Healthy Home Success

The City of Binghamton is celebrating the first restored house under its $1 Healthy Homes program.
The City of Binghamton is celebrating the first restored house under its $1 Healthy Homes program.

Earlier this year, Sarah Edwards, bought 118 Liberty Street for only $1 from the City. Through the program, she was able to get $100,000 of state grant funding to help restore the property. Edwards also put in $36,000. This morning, Edwards showed off the 2-unit rental property to us and officials from the City.

"When we first got here, everyone said, 'Sarah, are you out of your mind?' The walls were falling down. All the copper was stolen out of it. The house wasn't secured. It was just terrible. I would have thought, tear it down. But, I was like, no way, this is a little project, we can so do this. It's beautiful inside," said Edwards.

Edwards also bought 11 and 13 Way St. in the City for a dollar each. She will be restoring them in the near future.
