Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Former Syracuse University and Nottingham High School lacrosse star Matt Abbott has been named to the final U.S. roster for the upcoming 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship in Denver.

Abbott was a 1st-Team All-American and a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award in his senior season (2009) at Syracuse when he led the Orange with 77 grounds balls.

He finished his career ninth in school history with 212 career ground balls.

Abbott was one of seven midfielders to make the active 23-man roster.

In addition to Abbott, former Orange goalie John Galloway was one of two alternates selected Monday.

Galloway will travel with Team USA, but can only be added to the active roster in the event of an injury.

Team USA begins its world title defense on July 10 against Canada.
