Former Bills receiver Hardy found dead

Fort Wayne, IN - A body found in the Maumee River near Fort Wayne, Indiana Wednesday has been identified as former Bills receiver James Hardy.

An autopsy conducted by the Allen County Coroner's office confirmed the identity of the body on Thursday, but the coroner could not discover the cause or manner of death.

The body is thought to have been in the river a few days.

An employee with Fort Wayne's water filtration plant conducting regular rounds discovered the body and notified authorities.

The Bills issued a statement saying they are "saddened by passing" of Hardy and expressed condolences to the family.

Hardy was drafted by the Bills in the second round of the 2008 draft. He played two seasons and despite high expectations, the 6-foot-6 receiver only made ten catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns in his career.

He was out of football after 2011.
