In a copycat league, the playoff teams become the targets.
For the first time in 18 years, the Bills found out exactly what that means.
Buffalo lost VP of Player Personnel Brian Gaine to Houston. Gaine will reportedly take over as general manager of the Texans.
Gaine had worked the previous three seasons in the Houston front office. He was hired by Brandon Beane and the Bills last May. His time with the Bills will amount to all of eight months.
And one Drought ending playoff appearance.
Gaine was third in line on the Bills front office page behind Beane and assistant GM Joe Schoen.
The Texans are also expected to extend the contract of head coach Bill O'Brien, meaning Gaine will not be picking his own coach to start.
Rick Smith had been the Houston GM for the last 11 seasons. He announced after the season he is taking an extended leave of absence to be with his wife as she recovers from breast cancer.
