USA Defeats Ghana in World Cup Team Opener

The United States opened Group G play against nemesis Ghana.

Fans around the U.S. were watching and hoping for a win.

The U.S. would strike first.

Thirty seconds into the game Jermaine Jones passed to Clint Dempsey outside the box. Dempsey got by the defender, shot off the post and scored.

The U.S. got it done on defense as well. Asamoah Gyan ripped a shot from outside the box, with a great save by Tim Howard to keep Ghana scoreless going into the half.

In the 81st minute, Gyan made the back heel pass to Andre Ayew who scored to tie the game at one.

Soon after in the 85th minute, USA took a corner kick. Graham Zusi sent it to the middle of the box and John Anthony Brooks heads it in for the goal.

U.S. wins 2-1.

The U.S. will take on Portugal on Sunday at 6 p.m.
