Both starters traded zeros through the first four innings. B-Mets starter Rainy Lara retired the first nine batters he faced, while Deck McGuire struck out five in five innings. Neither player factored into the decision.
New Hampshire got on the board first in the fifth inning. Reynolds’ throwing error at short allowed Andy Burns to reach second base to lead off the frame. Burns moved to third on a fly out. Following an out, Andy Fermin singled to right-center field to score Burns and give the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead.
Binghamton wasted no time answering back. In the bottom of the fifth, Dustin Lawley led off with a double. Two batters later, Xorge Carrillo singled to right-center field, plating Lawley to tie the game. Wilfredo Tovar followed with a one-out single and Reynolds threaded a single through the hole on the left side to ring home Carrillo, giving the B-Mets a 2-1 lead.
The Binghamton advantage held until the top of the seventh inning. John Church came on in relief of Lara. With one out, Jack Murphy hooked a solo shot inside the right-field foul pole to tie the game at two. It was his first hit with New Hampshire this season.
The B-Mets took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Richard Bleier. Reynolds tacked his fourth hit of the day with a one-out single to center field. With two outs and Reynolds on first, Matt Clark hit a single to left field that squeaked under the glove of a charging Jon Berti. Reynolds raced home from first giving the B-Mets a one-run lead.
Chasen Bradford allowed just one base runner in a shutout ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season. Church (1-0) allowed one run over two innings and earned the win, while also suffering his first blown save. Bleier (0-1) gave up one run in 2-2/3 innings and was tagged with his first loss of the year.
The B-Mets (9-5) have a day off on Sunday before continuing their home-stand against the Portland Seadogs on Monday. Binghamton will send RHP Tyler Pill to the bump against LHP Henry Owens. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
